RNZAF Ohakea base

maintenance support squadron

Manawatu

The MSS building is 206 metres long and approximately 54 metres wide with a 181-metre-long spine corridor and at the time of construction had the largest footprint of any building constructed on a New Zealand Defence Force Base. This new complex was built to replace old WWII era buildings for the RNZAF. It is an environmentally sustainable designed build which obtained Green Star rating by the NZ Green Building Council – 96 percent of general waste generated on site was recycled.

The building was constructed using precast panel wall components both internally and externally supported on large Steltech® beams that span up to 28 metres .

Services represented 45 percent of the build, which required extensive liaison and space
co-ordination by our staff and management particularly with Mechanical and Plumbing trades.
